When entertainment journalism catches on fire, who do you call? That's right, self-declared vigilante entertainment journalist Amelia Emberwing. This week on the Certified Forgotten podcast, Emberwing joins the Matts to discuss the current state of the industry as someone who's spent her fair share of time at the bargaining table. But more importantly, Emberwing is here to discuss Shaky Shivers, a somewhat new horror comedy from a somewhat unexpected source.

You might forgive Lucy (Brooke Markham) and Karen (VyVy Nguyen) for not giving life their best. After all, the two best friends haven’t exactly set the world on fire since high school, and they now work at a small ice cream shop in the middle of nowhere. But when they piss off the wrong customers, things soon go from bad to worse. Lucy begins to think she might have had a werewolf’s curse placed upon her, and as the two friends head into the woods to test her theory, they find themselves at the center of a good old-fashioned monster mash. Horror-comedy Shaky Shivers is the directorial debut of Sung Kang, best known for his work as an actor in the Fast and the Furious franchise.

In this short excerpt from the episode, Emberwing explains why the blend of comedy and practical effects in Shaky Shivers brings to mind another fan-favorite horror movie:

It's like Psycho Goreman's dorky little sister. It's not nearly as mature, it's not nearly as refined, and, in some ways, it's not necessary as funny, because I think Psycho Goreman walks on water. But the reliance on its charm and its practical effects keep it in that same vein for me. Every ounce of your budget was spent on these weird creatures.
