Welcome to Certified Forgotten, a writer-owned independent horror publication cofounded by journalists Matthew Donato and Matthew Monagle.
While the last two decades have been some of the best in the genre's history, there are also fewer places for horror critics to publish than ever before. Therefore, when Certified Forgotten was launched in 2021, our goal was simple: provide a platform for the thousands of 21st Century horror films that are often overlooked by mainstream publications.
Several years later, Certified Forgotten is still the premiere place on the internet to learn about independent and international horror releases.
When you read Certified Forgotten, you'll soon find yourself immersed in essays on experimental Irish horror films like The Green Marker Scare or celebrations of found footage curios like The Great Satan. With the boom in streaming platforms, more horror is available than ever before, and we love being able to encourage our writers to dig deep into the dark corners of modern distribution.
In addition to our weekly editorial calendar, Certified Forgotten also releases two podcasts on a biweekly cadence. Our main feed features hour-long episodes on underseen horror with special guests from across the horror industry; every other week, we also publish a 30-minute episode where Matthew Donato and Matthew Monagle take a close look at a new mainstream release. Our podcast episodes can be found on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, or YouTube Music.
As a subscription-based platform, every dollar you contribute to Certified Forgotten goes to support our writers. At this time, neither cofounder earns any money from the website, choosing instead to reinvest our subscription income into the success of the website.
