Uncertified: ‘Weapons’ With Perri Nemiroff

Podcaster and interviewer extraordinaire Perri Nemiroff joins Certified Forgotten for a discussion about Zach Cregger's 'Weapons.'

Weapons

Warner Bros. Pictures

Ever since Zach Cregger's script for Weapons was the subject of a secret Hollywood bidding war, the hype has been through the roof for the horror filmmaker's sophomore feature. But is Cregger's second film a worthwhile successor to Barbarian? To answer that question, we're bringing out the big guns: podcaster, interviewer, and all-around Hollywood trendsetter Perri Nemiroff (Collider).

For those who want to go into Weapons as spoiler-free as possible, we'll keep things simple. Cregger's new feature is set in a small town where the children of Justine Gandy (Julia Garner) disappear overnight. Amidst the pain and confusion, men like Archer Graff (Josh Brolin) choose to put Ms. Gandy under a spotlight steeped in mistrust and suspicion.

In this short excerpt from the episode, Nemiroff explains why her appreciation for Weapons is all the more surprising because of her mixed reaction to Cregger's debut feature

I think one of the more unusual things about where I'm coming from on Weapons is that I seem to be one of the very, very few who did not really like Barbarian. I loved Act 1 of Barbarian. If that was the whole movie, I was going to be real happy. I do think there's great story ideas in Part 2 and Part 3, but the movie didn't really flow well enough for the whole thing to come together and feel cohesive enough.
