While it's true that there are no bad Evil Dead movies, some certainly rank higher than others. That's the case for Evil Dead Burn, Sébastien Vaniček's much-anticipated follow up to Lee Cronin's Evil Dead Rise. Vaniček has made an undeniably mean movie, but which of the Certified Forgotten founders ranks it at the bottom of the list, and who has it at the top? You'll have to listen to find out.
After the sudden death of her husband Will Price (George Pullar), the newly widowed Alice (Souheila Yacoub) joins her in-laws for a memorial at their family estate. But as the evening unfolds, the Prices learn that their tragedy was far less accidental than they thought. There are undead forces who have set the Price family square in their sights, and if Alice and her estranged in-laws cannot find a way to ward off the evil dead, they may just find themselves… well, dead by dawn.
In this short excerpt from the episode, Matt Donato explains why he felt the comedy was the missing factor from Evil Dead Burn:
I just felt so burdened by the evil of it all, and how far Sébastien pushes into it, that it overshadows those moments of comedy. And I never felt a certain type of balance that I am used to. I don't need my Evil Dead to be a horror-comedy, but I did feel like this was one flavor of an Evil Dead movie, and I wanted it to be a little better combined.
