Kate Bowen

Dr Kate Bowen is an author, poet, and academic from South Australia with a life-long love of horror. Kate's writing is informed by her PhD in American cinema and gender studies and 8 years of research experience as a feminist film scholar at The University of Adelaide. In 2018, Kate spoke at the Revelation International Film Festival in Perth, Western Australia as one of the academic pioneers of research into found footage horror films and their relationship with Laura Mulvey's theory of the male gaze. Her work appears extensively in horror magazine We Are Horror as one of the contributors to the magazine's inception in 2020 and later in 2021 as a monthly columnist. Horror magazines Grim and Ghouls have also hosted Kate's writing and her articles can also be found at Certified Forgotten, The Artifice, and Film Cred. Kate is currently writing a book chapter expanding her research into Southern Gothic horror and cannibalism as a gendered phenomenon in the Wrong Turn series.
