In 2019, Matt Donato and Matthew Monagle found themselves in a heated discussion about the relationship between horror and RottenTomatoes. With hundreds of horror films released each year, what happens to the movies that fail to earn attention from the ‘accredited’ RottenTomatoes sites? And what does it say about the industry that some mainstream horror sites have historically been left on the outside looking in?
The result of that conversation was the Certified Forgotten podcast. In the show, The Matts and a rotating group of industry guests tackle some of the best horror films to feature five or fewer RT reviews. This allows Certified Forgotten to focus exclusively on the movies that have fallen through the cracks, those festival standouts – and direct-to-video cult classics – that are deserving of a second look.
These films may be fresh, or they may be rotten, but they’ve all been Certified Forgotten.

What People Say
Love the concept. Horror is a genre that puts out so many movies that it’s almost impossible to see them all (unless you’re Matt Donato). This is a great dive into obscure, under appreciated horror. The hosts are great, the guest are great, and the movies they cover are always unique. This is a journey I want to be on for the long haul.JDGravatte (6/18/2020)
Here’s the beauty of a show like this. As a film fan, it’s hard to keep up with everything and to have seen it all. Luckily for us, the Matt’s are weeding through some neglected gems, such as DEMON WIND and MOTIVATIONAL GROWTH. Every guest has been superb, both hosts are smart, witty and incredibly knowledgeable with likable hosting personalities. Do yourself a favor and hit subscribe.ryanrooney (8/28/2019)
I might be a little biased here as I as one of the early guests, but Donato and Monagle are both great hosts that cover the spectrum of the horror community. Their guests are fun and thoughtful and there’s a surprising amount of insight, especially considering they’re all having a good time talking about small, forgotten horror movies. It’s a must-listen for any horror fans and aspiring horror filmmakers.shotfairy (8/28/2019)
