Strip away our clever gimmick – five or fewer reviews on Rotten Tomatoes – and our podcast is all about in-depth looks at undiscovered films. We choose movies that deserve lengthy, passionate conversations, and our hope is that the website will become home to some of the smartest, deep-dive examinations of modern horror this side of The Dissolve. With that in mind, here a few guidelines to consider when pitching Certified Forgotten.
- We love that so many of our readers take the time to pitch us on their favorite ’70s and ’80s movies, but one of our biggest goals at Certified Forgotten: The Website is to unearth some of the most overlooked films from the DVD generation and beyond. With that in mind, we strongly encourage you to focus on horror films – international and domestic – from the ’90s, ’00s, and ’10s that fit our under-discovered niche.
- We also want our writers to be encouraged to take deep dives into individual films. Don’t feel like you need to tie a film into its contemporary counterpart to get our interest – if you are ready to go long on a single film, then you should definitely go long on a single film.
- Our current rate is $75.00 per editorial. Most editorials run between 1,000 and 1,500 words in length, but we’ll never be upset if a really good piece is longer or shorter. Our editorial calendar allows for six (6) articles per month, so don’t be discouraged if we ask you to pitch again a little further down the line.
- When pitching, please include samples of your work. This makes it easier for us to understand the kind of writing we can expect from you. And don’t worry if horror is not a big part of your portfolio – that’s what we’re here for.
- Make sure you articulate a clear perspective in your pitch. For example, we love that you love Ojuju and want to write about it, but do not forget the “why” and the “how.” What do you want to say, and why is it a great fit for Certified Forgotten?
Please note that we are only accepting editorial pitches for Certified Forgotten at this time. Film reviews or guest appearances on the podcast will not be accepted. We meet once a week to review pitches, so please drop us a line ([email protected]) and we will get back to you as soon as we can.
